Flight Industry Websites Get Penalized For Rich Snippets

While we are on theĀ penalties topic from yesterday I would like to share with you other news that came from Google. The man of the hour is again John Mueller who made an interesting comment in a Google Hangout on Google+ on the 3rd of May. He stated that major travel sites were showing product pricing rich snippets for which Google had to take actions.

This is due to the fact that the sites used product rich snippets for multiple products on the same page and this was opposed to the intended use of one price per page. It all started with John Mueller explaining why rich snippets for pricing travel sites were being removed. John added:

What we did notice was a bunch of sites were using this as a way to kind of markup a variety of products instead of just one product. So we hope that the price markup on a page is specific to one product and you are talking about a page like flights to Berlin, then that is like tons of different products essentially.

Basically there were multiple different types of products at the same page with the same price which actually caused the penalty.
