Page speed is something every webmaster should worry about from the user’s point of view. But is it that disturbing when you look at it from an SEO perspective? Many SEOs look at the speed of a website as something that can really harm or improve the site’s rating.
Some SEOs even stress out that the reason for a low ranking page is its very slow speed. The truth is actually somewhere in the middle and was brought up by Google employees. On the 21st of April, Gary Illyes from Google answered a webmaster’s question on page speed with the short and simple:
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Make it as fast as you reasonably can.
Not long ago John Mueller also spoke on the topic, saying that mobile page speed is not counted as a factor, but even if speed is still a ranking factor – it is the desktop one. So, in the end it turns out that no matter how important is page speed for the overall pleasant experience of your website – it should not be considered as something that can boost the ranking of your page. Very slow pages can still be penalized though.
